Yeah Baby!

Today was my first total "non-stop" two-miler! I know that article I read supports the notion of run/walk, but I just wanted to see if I could do it. I did the two miles in 22 minutes (approx.) The first 3/4 mile was a real breeze - actually the whole first mile today wasn't TOO bad. But man, by the last 1/2 mile I was winded and the whole run today I was running through some hip, shoulder, and lower back tightness. I just took some Aleve and that really really helps. I took a HOT shower this morning and that really seemed to loosen things up too - I think I will try to hit the hot tubs at the gym on M W F's. Anyway, I was happy I was able to do it despite having to run through some things today.

The Run/Walk Training Plan

Hey Jeff, here's the link to the article I mentioned last night. This guy is a huge proponent of the run/walk training (and competing) method - and he is a former WINNER of the BOSTON marathon! Enjoy.

You're kickin' ass man!

Hey, last night you told me you ran 3.2 miles without stopping the day before - that's awesome! You probably could finish this race right now if they held it today!

I ran today the same loop - one mile at the onset, walked 1/4 mile, then ran the last 3/4 mile. I had a great last 1/2 mile today - I picked up the pace which was harder cardio-vascular"ly" but it felt a lot better on my hips/knees/ankles. I did the full 2 miles in about 22 minutes. I've got to build endurance though. I ran into a neighbor of mine this morning when we were both out walking our dogs and he's a big time runner now, but he admitted he's not mentally all that tough - that's totally me! The instant I feel that first bit of tightness or pain, I'm ready to cash it in but just try to run through it hoping it will eventually settle down. He's run a couple of half marathons now and he said that's what he does - he just tries to hang in there mentally until his body comes around. Anyway nice going again man - you da man!

Putting in the miles

O.K., so today I ran because I missed yesterday's maintenance run. I ran a full mile first without stopping/walking etc. Then walked about 1/8 mile I guess, ran an 1/8, walked another 1/8, then ran the rest, slightly over 1/2 mile I guess. I'm still having the same stiffness/pain in the connective tissue at the bottom of my gastroc/soleus and ankle. We'll see if that loosens up over time or if I have to start experimenting with inserts in my shoes. Anyway, I'm on the road still keeping focused on Aug. 28!

Feelin' It

Thank God today is a "walk" day - I'm feeling it after yesterday's run. Not bad at all, but I am a little tight today. A Piston's championship last night though was awesome right?

First full run (almost)

OK, today I hit the road at about 7:50 a.m. and ran up to Video Hits Plus (corner of Howard and W. Michigan) I did it in about 20-25 mins (didn't have a watch with me) I only stopped once (for a red light at W. Main) and walked once for about 30 secs. I ran the rest of the way which was a full 2 miles! I didn't do "great" but I did pretty well today. I was spent afterwords - that last 100 yards or so was on a sidewalk in front of the new apartments on Howard and the concrete definitely seemed harder than the asphalt road. I'm looking forward to being able to make that run and having it be "easy" - had to kind of "dig in" just to finish the last little bit up. All in all, I had a good run this morning!

Easy like Sunday Mornin'

Sunday we pretty much took it easy but still stuck with the training program. We took the kids for a canoe ride down Portage creek. The creek was really narrow most of the way through and it was a very short ride - 30-45 mins.

Afterwards we played with the kids at a park and then walked about 2 miles back to the livery.

Today is a rest day - woo hoo!

I picked up new running shoes this weekend - a pair of Saucony's - love 'em! I can really feel the difference.

So - have you thought about the K'zoo Klassic this weekend?

11 Weeks to Go!

I ran about a mile tonight. I was running with Eddie so it was pretty casual. Ran maybe .4, walked .2, then ran another .4

Tomorrow I think I'm going to run .5 walk 2 minutes, run .5 walk 2 minutes, and keep that going until I do 2 miles.

Keep me up to speed with your training - we'll run together up at my parent's place in Alpena in a few weeks.
